If You Have Dentures, Visit Our Cosmetic Dentist Office to Replace Them With Dental Implants

As a cosmetic dentist office, we regularly replace dentures with dental implants because they are a more secure and durable solution for tooth loss. While we treat patients right away after tooth loss, we also treat patients who originally replaced their teeth with dentures and found out they did not enjoy wearing them. People often feel this way about dentures because they are removable, and there is no real way to have them feel like natural teeth. Even the most well-fitting set of dentures can become loose over time due to the process of resorption. This can create additional challenges when it comes to eating and will often lead people to change their habits and avoid social situations like dining out with friends. If you have found yourself in this situation, we encourage you to consider implants as an alternative so that you can improve your quality of life. Note, that we do not complete the oral surgery here but will work with an oral surgeon and place the dental crown (new tooth) after the implant procedure is complete.

When you come in for a consultation, we can examine you, take X-rays, and determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. We can also answer any questions that you may have. Here are some of the common questions that we hear:

Can dental implants replace a full set of dentures?

Yes, we can use implants to replace one tooth or all of your teeth. However, if you need to have an entire set of teeth replaced, you may want to consider a hybrid solution like having your dentures secured in place with several carefully positioned implants. Otherwise, we would be happy to provide you with implants as a replacement solution, regardless of how many teeth need to be replaced.

Why are dental implants more secure than dentures?

As a cosmetic dentist, we know that implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth because of the process of osseointegration. In this procedure, we place a titanium post under your gums and secure it to your jawbone. Since the body responds to titanium like it does natural matter, the two will fuse together. This means that your jawbone will provide the same level of stability to your implants as it does to your natural teeth. Dentures only replace your teeth from the outside of the gums, so there is no real comparison from a stability standpoint.

Which solution is easier to care for?

A dental prosthetic can replace your teeth, but this is not where it ends. How it functions and how you care for it can also impact your lifestyle. Dentures have to be taken out on a nightly basis to be cleaned and soaked, whereas dental implants are cared for like natural teeth. All you need to do is brush your teeth like normal with a soft toothbrush, floss, and receive regular dental care. This makes implants much easier to care for on an ongoing basis.

How do I get started?

As a cosmetic dentist, we can examine you to determine if you are a good candidate for implants and then schedule an appointment for implant surgery. To get started, call our office and schedule a consultation.
