3 Proven Teeth Straightening Treatments for Adults

Although teeth straightening tends to done when one is a child or a teenager, many adults actually come to a point in their lives where they decide that they want to straighten their teeth. Today, there are a few options that anyone can consider when hoping to straighten their teeth.

Interested in a few proven teeth straightening treatments for adults? In this article, we'll discuss three, though it is important to consider all the options that exist for teeth straightening.

Three proven teeth straightening treatments for adults

Traditional braces, ceramic braces and clear aligners are three popular methods of treatment. Read on to find out more about these options.

Traditional braces

Most people are familiar with traditional metal braces. They are reliable, durable and have proven their success for many years. Traditional metal braces involve the use of brackets and wires. Individual metal brackets are cemented onto the surface of each tooth. Metal wires are then fed through each bracket, connecting all of them together.

Over time, the brackets and wires combined will move each individual tooth, which will allow for overall teeth shifting to take place. Dentists will see the patient every few weeks to monitor the progress of the braces.

Ceramic braces

Another common and proven method of teeth straightening is quite similar to metal braces, but in this case, the brackets are made of ceramic, which allows for a more discreet method of treatment. Also, the wires that are used to connect the brackets are clear in color.

Ceramic braces work the same way that traditional braces do, they are simply different in appearance. Many adults considering teeth straightening like the idea of ceramic braces because they are not as noticeable as traditional metal braces.

Clear aligners

One of the most modern methods of teeth straightening is clear aligners. These are newer to the dental industry but have proven to be quite effective. Clear aligners are entire prosthetic pieces used for either the top half or bottom half of the teeth. Unlike braces, aligners are removable and in just one piece, which means that patients need to be diligent about wearing them daily and taking care of them. The aligners must be worn for 22-23 hours a day to ensure that they provide accurate treatment.

Teeth straightening with clear aligners involves routine dentist appointments, just like braces. However, instead of adjustments, a new set of aligners is provided to the patient.

One advantage that clear aligners offer to adult patients is that they are completely clear in color, which can make for a practically invisible method of teeth straightening treatment.
